Annual General Meeting - Saturday 19 November 2016

The Reformation

We thank the Australian Lutheran College, including Pastor James Winderlich, Principal, and Lutheran appointees to SA Council of Churches - Bishop David Altus, Pastor Leon Rosenberg, and Mr Gilbert Materne - for their gracious and generous  hospitality in hosting the AGM of SA Council of Churches on 19 November 2016.

We are grateful to Dr Stephen Pietsch, Lecturer in Pastoral Theology at ALC, who described the Reformation, 500 years on, with a focus on Luther, Conflict and Communion. He traced some important aspects of Luther’s reformation theology for ecumenical dialogue today, drawing on the Document ‘From Conflict to Communion’:

Annual General Meeting - Saturday 14 November 2015

SA Council of Churches thanks St Spyridon's Greek Orthodox Church for their gracious and generous hospitality in so many ways on 14 November.  We are deeply appreciative of the time we had to pray, to hear the story of the Greek Orthodox Church and how faith is expressed, to receive beautifully prepared food and drinks, as well as to share stories, hopes and signs of our unity in Christ.
We prayed, in silence, for people in Palestine/Israel, in Paris and for all who are caught in the cycle of conflict, that peace may permeate the hearts and actions of all.
Some Member Churches shared how they are shaping and developing ecumenical consciousness and leadership.  More soon.
And we thank the following people, for their willingness to continue to serve Christian unity together as Officers of SACC: President - Ms Jill Gallio, Roman Catholic Church; Vice President - Ms Ngaire Llewellyn, Churches of Christ; Vice President - Mr Peter Burke, Anglican Church; Treasurer - Mr Neil Traeger.

General Meeting - Saturday 20 April 2013

Brief Report - for Church Newsletters
General Council, Standing Committees and people from across the Churches gathered on Saturday 20 April 2013 at St Aloysius Catholic Church Hall, 68 Brooker Terrace, Richmond.  Members of the Roman Catholic tradition shared their story with us and led us in prayer. In addition they asked “What would you pray for the Roman Catholic Church today?”
General Council has made a statement of commitment on Recognition, Reconciliation and Relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Rev Rob Williams, currently Moderator of the Uniting Church, was elected to Executive Committee by General Council and we look forward to his contribution there.  And Rev Lindsay Faulkner was farewelled after many years on General Council.
Feedback on the gathering included comments such as ‘Engaging fellowship’, ‘A time of learning and inspiration’, ‘Breaking down the defensiveness between the denominations’, ‘Building on how others see us (refer General Council March 2010)’, ‘How are we the Church that Christ wants us to be?’
